JOBURG – Warrant of arrest for Brighton Ndebele who is accused of possession of unlicensed firearm.

 

An accused out on R2 000 bail, Brighton Mkhwanazi is on the run.

He and co-accused Thabiso Mkhwanazi were charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm. Brighton failed to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 8 September and prosecutor Vincent Ndzuke asked that a warrant for his arrest be issued. Thabiso appeared briefly before magistrate Thandi Twele. He was denied bail and remains in custody. The case was remanded to 18 September for further investigations while police are on the hunt for Brighton.

In a separate case, Stanley Maphosa and Leeward Zulu, also accused of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition appeared briefly in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court. The two are believed to have been employed as bouncers.

Zulu is out on R2 000 bail while Maphosa was denied bail as he is an undocumented immigrant. Their case was postponed to 18 September.
