OLIEVENHOUTBOSCH – It is understood that the man had been attacked outside his home late last night, paramedics said.

A 33-year-old man was left seriously injured when he was attacked with an axe outside his home in the Olievenhoutbosch informal settlement.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, said ER24 paramedics were called to the scene this morning, 2 January, by the local authorities.

“It is understood that the man had been attacked outside his home late last night. The man managed to crawl into his home and was only found early this morning,” said Meiring.

“Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous injuries, leaving him in a serious condition.

“The man was treated for his injuries and provided with pain-relief medication before he was transported to a nearby provincial hospital for further treatment.”

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations, said Meiring.
