A Midrand boy scooped third place at the International Mental Arithmetic competition which took place in Malaysia on 10 and 11 December last year.
Eleven-year-old, Grade 6, Aradh Behareelall at Halfway House Primary School represented South Africa in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. The lad was tested through his ability to calculate without a calculator, competing among champions from around the world.
Not only has Aradh competed among world champions, he has also made friends with many motivated learners and dedicated teachers from different parts of the globe.
“I feel very excited to have competed internationally and I will always be thankful to the people who believed in me and gave me this opportunity to grow. I now look forward to the new learning opportunities and challenges that await me.”
He said the prizegiving was one of the highlights of the competition. It was an extremely cultural and diverse experience. He said he was very pleased with his achievement and grateful for the support he received from his teachers, Vanika Bansal, Raisa Surty, Tiaan, Judy and Hennie Janse van Rensburg for their dedication. “I’m proud of Aradh and his accomplishments. I am confident that he will continue with even more successes,” said Bansal.
Aradh was also awarded a top achievers award in his grade at Halfway House Primary School and achieved full scholastic colours.
