A joint operation between the Rabie Ridge crime prevention team and the Metro police at Modderfontein, Allendale and Republic roads yielded positive results on 9 March.
Spokesperson for the Rabie Ridge police, Captain Mofana Masela said the officers conducted a stop-and-search targeting drunk drivers and criminals. “The operation was done to address crime in the area, also targeting drunk drivers and unlicensed firearms.”
The total number of arrests was 184 for various crimes:
- 104 for drunk driving
- 30 for public drinking
- 20 for assault
- 15 for possession of illegal drugs
- 5 for robberies
- 3 for murder
- 2 for rape
- 5 for unlicensed firearms
- 5 for domestic violence
- 3 for malicious damage to property
- 2 for theft of a motor vehicle
“We want to thank all the members that made the operation a success. Our cluster has done so well and we are having fewer crime incidences and more arrests.”
