Reginald Machava was sentenced to 27 years’ imprisonment by the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court for a spate of crimes including house robberies.
The 26-year-old was sentenced on 25 May after he was found guilty on five charges namely, house robbery, housebreaking, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and attempted murder.
All the crimes he was convicted of had been committed in Ivory Park shortly before he was arrested in 2016.
Station commander of Ivory Park Police Station, Brigadier David Ngcobo said that considering the trauma caused to the victims, Machava deserves all the years handed to him by the court.
He also said the sentence should serve as a warning to other people involved in criminal activities.
“Our detectives, regardless of their ranks, are a devoted bunch and do not rest until all angles and leads have been explored,” he said.
