The first Grade 7 class of Carlswald House Preparatory (CHP) was honoured at a valediction dinner held on 29 November.
Teachers and learners took parents on a trip down memory lane of their challenges, achievements and most of all, the good times.
Teacher Rhian Johnson wrote a poem for her English class about their journey and adventures. “When you move on to high school, I hope you will know all the strategies we taught you to help you develop and grow. Always give it your all. Don’t be afraid to take risks and get back up when you fall.”
Johnson thanked the learners for being a source of comfort during her time at the school. “You have been with me through all the ups and downs. You will always have a safe place in my heart.
“Thank you for your effort these years and the stories you have shared with me.”
Tiyandza Khumalo who has been with the school since Grade 6, said she will remember how it always felt like family.
“Even though CHP has not been my home for as long as my classmates, it feels as though it has been my home forever. I will never forget the friends I have made,” said Tiyandza.
“We’ve cried, laughed and smiled together. I’m going to miss you dearly.”
As a farewell gift from the school, the learners received a personalised pen with their names engraved.
In his closing address, principal Stewart Tagg urged the learners to reflect on the past year and its achievements.
“Grade 7s, you have gained so much wisdom this year. We are so proud to have watched you grow.
“As you leave Carlswald House Preparatory, be noble and reflect your goodness.”
Tagg concluded that every minute spent with the learners was a special experience. He said even though the learners may be at other schools, they must fly the Carlswald House Preparatory flag proudly as it is their home and foundation.
