Robbery at filling station on Christmas Eve

MIDRAND - Police are appealing for residents with any information on the incident to please contact the station.

Midrand police have launched a manhunt for two male suspects who robbed a filling station in Halfway Gardens.

According to Midrand police’s Constable Thabiso Selowa, on 24 December, the suspects, driving a white Chevrolet vehicle, arrived at the filling station at around 9.30pm asking for assistance for tyre pressure.

While a petrol attendant filled the tyres with air, the suspects, armed with a firearm, jumped out of the vehicle and forced the petrol attendant into the filling station store.

Inside the store, they robbed customers of their cellphones and money.

They also robbed the store of cigarettes and money in the tills.
No one was injured during the armed robbery.

Selowa has urged the community to immediately contact the police if they have seen the suspects or the vehicle.

“The police are suspecting that the getaway vehicle had a fake registration number. Investigations are still underway as no suspects have been arrested.”

If you have information on the incident or have seen the vehicle, please contact the Midrand Police Station on 011 347 1600/26.
