MMC of finance responds to Ivory Park protest
IVORY PARK – MMC for Finance Funzela Ngobeni expressed shock at the reports of violence at a housing protest in Ivory Park.
MMC for Finance councillor Funzela Ngobeni expressed shock upon finding out that council officials were threatened at the protest in Rabie Ridge, Ivory Park, Ebony Park and Mayibuye.
The protest took place on 24 January with disgruntled residents in the area demanding decent housing. The City officials were allegedly instructed and forcefully removed from their offices at the Department of Housing by protesters.
Business was suspended for the day as management is attending to the issues of safety concerning our employees.
Ngobeni said, “Should the matter persist [on 25 January], revenues services will be suspended in the abovementioned four pay points while officials will be dispatched to other offices within the region.”
“We cannot put the lives of our staff members at stake. We understand the frustration behind the demands, however, violent behaviour is never a solution,” concluded Ngobeni.
