Councillor Annette Deppe shares residents’ concerns of high traffic

MIDRAND – Councilor Annette Deppe has called on the JRA to help alleviate traffic congestion on Norfolk Road, Carlswald.

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe has expressed her concern about the high traffic flow on Norfolk Road, Carlswald in Midrand.

Deppe took to social media to post a video of herself standing beside the road and showing the high traffic on the road.  “Ever since the intersection at Kyalami and Ethol opened, the traffic has just increased exponentially on this road,” said Deppe in the video.

“The queue is just going on and on. It is putting a huge amount of pressure on this road which is only a one lane tarred road which is really an old farm road. The traffic pointsman on the corner of Harry Galaun Drive and Norfolk Road cannot move the traffic because the traffic is jammed from the Harry Galaun side.”

The councillor said she is calling on the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to help address the traffic congestion on this road. “I understand what residents are going through. I appreciate them sending me letters and complaints. Hopefully, the JRA is going to be able to come to some kind of solutions going forward.” JRA spokesperson Zoleka Jika said the matter has been escalated to the traffic engineering department. “I have escalated it to traffic engineering.

They need to go and do research and based on that they must see what type of traffic coming measures is needed in that area,” said Jika. “They will need to investigate and see if that specific road she is referring to qualifies to get any traffic calming measures.”
