A year-long push was led by the local community culminating in a petition handover being hosted on 13 February with Ward 112 councillor Madeleine Hicklin who described the project as a ‘wonderful community initiative’.

City Parks Region A manager Joseph Ndou said the park was already being maintained with monthly grass cutting and clean-ups.

In the petition to City Parks, there were three requests made which included the installation of five waste bins, five benches and a palisade fence surrounding the park.

Ndou said the bins and benches have already been installed.

“A request for palisade fencing was made. A tendering process was held until 12 March and we will be appointing a service provider who will install the fencing,” said Ndou.

He added that after the tender process the fencing was expected to be installed within 10 working days.
