#IMadeMyMark: Deppe talks elections

MIDRAND – Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe chats to the Midrand Reporter about the upcoming elections.

As the country gears up for the national elections on 8 May, the Midrand Reporter sat down with Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe to discuss voting and what she expects from the elections.

Ward councillor Annette Deppe has been serving the public for 15 years and has become a significant figure in local politics in Midrand, this being her third national election and second local election.

She said, “I think its extremely important to go out and vote. We cannot afford to not participate in these upcoming elections.” In terms of the expected outcome, she said, “I think that the Democratic Alliance will grow in votes in Gauteng. I don’t think the Economic Freedom Fighters will grow in this province even though it might look like it.

The Freedom Front might gain a few votes from the extreme conservatives.” Deppe named the ANC, DA, EFF, IFP and VF as the primary players in the upcoming elections, while in her ward she said that the ANC, DA and EFF will be the only main contenders. Deppe added that her ward is very important to her party as many of their votes came from Ward 132.

“In the last national election, we won this ward by just over 60 per cent to 65 per cent… I believe we’ve done enough groundwork, and we are ready for 8 May.” She called on residents to be positive and to work together. She concluded, “Residents should not be negative. In these kinds of elections, there has not been internal fighting between parties.

We work together well and there is no animosity.” Details: Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe 082 886 8519. What would you like to see from the upcoming election? Share your views with on Twitter @MidrandReporter and use #IMadeMyMark
