Tembisa Hospital hosts career expo

TEMBISA – The Tembisa Hospital hosted learners from all around the area at their first career expo.

The Tembisa Hospital brought learners from various schools together for the hospital’s first career expo on 25 April.

The expo saw learners from six schools, including Midrand and Norkem high schools, to learn more about health and the health sector.

Communications manager for Tembisa Hospital, Nothando Mdluli, said the day served two purposes. Firstly, the hospital gave a few workshops about personal health. She said, “We hosted a workshop touching on issues such as safe sex, teenage pregnancy, and abstinence.

“We also discussed bullying and how the kids can help with those issues, but we also introduced the discussions on mental health and how that is affected by bullying.”

The day also saw various medical practitioners set up stalls to give the high school learners a rundown on different career paths. Mdluli said, “We have about eight stalls, with doctors, nurses, pharmacist, etc. We wanted them to discuss their field with the students and give them an idea of what’s needed.

Rucilla Gamedze and Mahlatsi Letwaba.

“Most of the kids who are still in high school, don’t know what they want to do after school. So we thought it would be good to give them an idea of some possible career paths so they can start planning for their future.”
