A special day in Clayville

CLAYVILLE – The Curro Academy Clayville campus hosted a special entrepreneurship carnival on 18 May.

It was a bustling day in the sun for the local Clayville community as the Curro Academy Clayville campus hosted a special carnival day on 18 May.

The event included stalls, entertainment, water slides, and friendly sports matches, with families enjoying a day in the sun. It was also an entrepreneurship day for the learners to put their knowledge developed in class into practice.

Executive head of the school Dean Verwey said that the day gave the school community the opportunity to build relationships between parents and for parents to have fun with their children.

“We wanted to get the local community involved. We didn’t want it to be a closed-off event, but rather a community effort in the spirit of Ubuntu.

“The day was especially important for our learners at the school who have learned about business principles, such as the stock exchange. Our school hosts a number of days where the children can put these principles into practice and learn how to grow their money. What makes it very different is that the money made does not go to school but back to the students.”

He said the money from the school’s various entrepreneurship days is used to fund trips for senior learners to participate in camps overseas.
