Residents come together
MIDRAND – The local community started their own cleanup group to participate in A Re Sebetseng.
The local community came together to clean up along Garden and Tamboti roads for A Re Sebetseng on 15 June.
The clean-up was started through a chance meeting between local resident Ariana Haripersad and the Democratic Alliance’s Candidate Councillor Lerato Mphefo. Haripersad said she was concerned about the state of the roads and pavements in her area and wanted to do something about it. “At the beginning of the year, when I saw the dirt and litter, we wanted to make the area look clean and show pride in where we live.”
Mphefo said she wanted the clean-up to become part of the A Re Sebetseng project permanently, adding that she will do everything she can to support Haripersad’s wish to keep the roads clean.

She added, “We decided to divide some of the responsibilities, with myself handling the spades, rakes and black bags, while Ariana commited to bring people to assist.”
Mphefo said they are currently aiming to hold the event at least once a month and are working hard to get more people in the area involved.
“I would like to call on people around Midrand to develop small groupings to participate in A Re Sebetseng each month, because if everyone can be responsible for their own litter, it would help a lot,” she added.

The clean-up saw a small group of residents and stakeholders, including workers from Phambili Wasteman and councilors, assist in cleaning up the road.
