Seven injured in Midrand crash
Seven people sustained minor injuries when two vehicles collided on Hampton Road in Glen Austin, Midrand on 21 July. According to Netcare 911, reports from the scene indicate that two light motor vehicles were involved in a collision. For the full story, click here.
Road upgrades take place on 9th Road in Noordwyk
The City of Johannesburg had a sod-turning for gravel road upgrades on 9th road in Noordwyk, Midrand. It was attended by Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba, City speaker Vasco Da Gama and MMC for Transport Nonhlanhla Helen Makhuba on 23 July.
The City of Joburg said that around 2 000 learners use 9th Road to get to school every day, the road had muddy puddles – the tarring of the road is predicted to be completed by the end of this year. The City tweeted, “The road will only be open for parents and learners who need access to the road as two schools are situated around it.”

Research suggests obesity affects men more than women
Obesity comes with a lot of issues that can affect someone’s health – one can be at risk of having a heart attack, stroke, hypertension, gallstones, cancer, osteoarthritis, obstructive sleep apnea, fatty liver and depression to name a few.
Obesity affects both men and women, however, a study published in The Lancet by Elsevier Ltd shows that of the nearly 4 million men and women surveyed globally, the results of which were released in 2016, the risk of dying before the age of 70 was 19 per cent for men and 11 per cent for women of normal weight. These risks jumped to 30 per cent and 15 per cent, respectively, for obese men and women. According to the same study, men are more at risk of dying before the age of 70. Business robbed in Vorna Valley
A spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Constable Thabiso Selowa said the incident occurred on 10 July at a garage on Harry Galaun Avenue at 7.30pm. The complainant was on duty at the garage when four suspects entered. For the full story, click here.
Intense physical tests begin for 1 500 Metro positions

After a staggering 65 000 applications were received for the 1 500 Metro police positions, the department had to sift through and prequalify them down to 7 500 who still have to undergo tough physical fitness tests.
This test, conducted over 10 days, included a 2.4km run which women had to complete in 14 minutes and the men, in 12 minutes. It also included a make-or-break obstacle – a 1.8m wall, lowered to 1.6m for women – that each applicant is given two attempts to get over. If they failed, their names were struck off the list.
