Fitness club promotes healthy living in Rabie Ridge over a six-hour gym session for everyone

MIDRAND – Trimax Fitness Club celebrates Women's Month by raising awareness in the community of Rabie Ridge.

Trimax Fitness Club held a gym session themed Women of Purpose which was open for everyone, to honour women and raise awareness for healthy living.

On 17 August, the Rabie Ridge Community Hall was filled with members of clubs such as Trim It, Bophelong Fitness Club, both from Tembisa, Golden Oldies from Rabie Ridge, Gym Junkies from Ivory Boulders Aerobics and the Clayville Fitness Club to name a few, all in support of the initiative. And all that community members who wanted to take part had to do, was to attend, and if they could donate a sports bra or sanitary pad.

According to Trimax Fitness Clubs’ graphic designer who is also part of their marketing, Sharon Francis, the club is a non-profit organisation, established in 2013 by a group of fitness-dedicated individuals.

“We noticed that many people in the community needed an active and healthy lifestyle in the form of a physical fitness programme to eradicate and tackle obesity, physical unfitness and improve socio-development,” she added.

In light of Women’s Month and the event, Francis explained, “We are here promoting health awareness for our community as well as our surrounding area.

“We are also doing a drive for the donations of sanitary pads and sports bras, the sanitary pads will be donated to the learners at the Kanana Primary School and the sports bras will be given to the Midrand Local Football Association, as we noticed that a lot of the girls are not comfortable when taking part in sports because of the lack of a bra.

“If one wanted to donate, they could do so by dropping them right by the stage, where we received donations.”

Francis added that they can be found at the Kanana Community Hall in Rabie Ridge on weekdays, from 6pm until 7pm; Mondays to Thursdays in the afternoons; and Tuesdays to Fridays mornings from 8am until 9am.

They do aerobics, hilo, mini, functional, boxing and step training.

One of the sponsors on the day of the event was Sports Plus Academy. Director Calvin Segoale said that they did sports and motivational speaking. They are also a sporting agency and are passionate about giving back to the community.

Segoale added, “We came to supply them with soft drinks and pads for the event. Since it’s Women’s Month we thought it was a good idea to give back to the women and show them love and respect and also for us as a brand to market ourselves as our academy is a non-government organisation, established last year.”

Attendees were also treated to free neck-and-shoulders massages, as well as free manicures for men, and refreshments in-between

the gym sessions.
