100 trees for Blue Hills

BLUE HILLS – The Blue Hills residents celebrated Arbor Week by planting trees in their community.

The residents from Blue Hills Ext 15 and 32 got together on 7 September to plant trees in celebration of Arbor Week.

The tree planting was organised with the help of Ward 112 councillor Lerato Mphefo, who has been assisting and having discussions with the local Blue Hills Ext 15 and 32 community. “After I became councillor I got into contact with the community to discuss some of the issues in Blue Hills.”

Mphefo has since been helping the community to develop a residents’ association. She added that the residents are still building a community and one issue that was brought up was the lack of trees.

She then contacted Hyder Properties to request any possible assistance for the special day. The developer supplied 100 trees, 20 bags of manure and a water truck.

Community leader Calvin Nkosi said the help from the councillor and Hyder Properties was welcomed by the Blue Hills community with residents getting together to plant the trees.

“I think this day was good, not only in assisting in raising the value of our properties but by also creating a beautiful and green environment. So it was an incredible success,” Nkosi said.
