A waste picker recently discovered the body of newborn girl in a bin outside a residential complex in Vorna Valley.

“The distressed resident reported that there was a newborn baby inside a bin outside of a complex on Jamie Uys Street in Vorna Valley,” he said.
Maduray added that he and his team responded immediately to the call. When they arrived at the scene, they they found the body of the newborn baby and called Midrand Police Station to report the matter.
The spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, Sergeant Thabiso Selowa confirmed that the body of the baby was found wrapped in a plastic bag inside a waste bin by a waste picker.
Selowa said the baby was declared dead by paramedics. “She was dumped in the dustbin while still alive,” she added.
Selowa said a resident living in the complex, whose dustbin the baby was found in, said he took the bin out on 8 April at about 5.30pm for waste collection and was not aware of anything when questioned by police.
“We suspect that the child was dumped by someone who was passing by the complex in the night. An inquest was opened and the matter will be investigated further,” she concluded.
