Region A Metro police female officers engaged with motorists and pedestrians as part of Operation Mbokodo (solid rock) on the corner of Olifantsfontein Road and R55 in Midrand on August 6.
The operation was a way to commemorate Women’s Day.

Region A deputy director Faith Lengoati said they wanted to educate motorists about road safety, crime prevention and disaster management regulations.
“Not forgetting about gender-based violence, that is something that we cannot make a mistake about and ignore, because that is another pandemic the country is facing.”

Lengwati added that they would be having security officers responsible for the safeguarding of the council installations or public property as well. She said that they would be working with them to explain to motorists and pedestrians the importance of taking care of the council installations in their respective areas.

She referred to libraries, mentioning that communities needed them to do research and read. “Even us as adults, we need to use those libraries because some of us never had an opportunity to go to school whilst we were still young. But now we have an opportunity the government has given us, to further our education as adults; we need those facilities like libraries and clinics.

“Which is why we are engaging members of the community on why it is vital to take care of those resources or facilities. We must under no circumstances vandalise them or damage them because the community needs them.”
