Suspects apprehended for fraud

MIDRAND – According to the Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Constable Eliot Mabulane, the three suspects were also linked to fraud cases at the Kempton Park and Douglasdale police stations.

Three males who were found in possession of solar batteries obtained through a fraudulent invoice document at the value of R384 000 have been arrested.

The men were arrested for fraud on August 26 around 08:00.

According to Midrand Police Station spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane, the three suspects were also linked to fraud cases at the Kempton Park and Douglasdale police stations.

He said police received a complaint about a truck that was identified to have been involved in several fraud cases by a security system in Corporate Park, north of Midrand. According to the complainant, said Mabulane, the suspects placed an order for solar batteries worth R384 000 using an invalid invoice which never reflected on their system due to non-payment. “All three suspects were found in possession of the batteries after being apprehended by security within the business premises,” added Mabulane.

The station’s commander, Brigadier David Tsotsotso, applauded the security company for being vigilant during their duties which also include patrols.

He commended the working relationship between police and security companies and the efforts that both maintained in order to curb crime in the precinct. “The Midrand police are always in recognition of Section 205 of the National Constitution on the objectives of the South African Police Service which are to prevent, combat and investigate crime,” he said.

“The arrested suspects will be dealt with according to the legal framework of the law that includes conducting an investigation.”

Tsotsotso said police officers who had responded within the blink of an eye to a call by the complainant have been labelled to be patriotic and respectful of the badge of the South African Police Service. The suspects are expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.
