Who is elf on the shelf?

JOBURG – We find out more about this mischievous helper of Father Christmas.

It’s the elf on the shelf! What’s so special about this elf and how did it come to be such a fun accompaniment to the festive season? Well let’s find out shall we!

According to the site Woman’s Day, the Elf on the Shelf was a book and the story was written by Carol Aebersold, the book follows an elf whose job is to keep an eye on children for Father Christmas.

The book is said to further explain how in the days leading up to Christmas, the elf would report back to Father Christmas, telling him which of the children have been naughty or nice.

At home, what keeps the idea of the elf on the shelf going is the magic parents can create behind it. According to the site, once the elf is sent to your home from the North Pole, it’s time for the parents to facilitate the magic of this time. This can be done by giving children the opportunity to name the elf or maybe read the book. Either way so starts the excitement, as every night the elf goes back to the North Pole to share what it knows about the children with Father Christmas, on its arrival back home, children find the elf in all peculiar places.

Many would argue that the elf of the shelf has come with its own unique addition to Christmas time, adding a unique eclectic element.
