Midranders give hope to the Kista family through sports

HALFWAY HOUSE – The Kista family is hoping to raise the remaining R700 000 needed to book Kyleigh's surgery dates.

The Midrand Action Sports held a fundraiser in support of the ‘Hope for Kyleigh’ campaign on January 23.

The event was aimed to help raise funds to help three-year-old Kyleigh Kista who needs urgent open-heart surgery that can only be performed in the United States of America.

Kyleigh’s mother, Serina Kista, explained that they need to raise R5 million in total to take their daughter for the life-saving surgery.

Serina said they still had around R700 000 to raise before the end of January 31 to make sure that they can secure the dates for their daughter’s operation.

“We are trying to host big events to get companies and people to sponsor something from their hearts just so they can help Kyleigh and help us fill the gap. It is actually by the grace of God that so many people have come out through their own free will to help us by supporting our event,” she said.

Serina added that they were grateful for the support from Lezley Sahadew, owner of Midrand Action Sports arena, who approached them after he heard about Kyleigh.

He said that he felt compelled to help after having imagined what the family might have been going through. “Not only that but having a responsibility to the community, most importantly there is a kid that needs any sort of intervention at this point, we just need to get together as a community and assist,” he said.

Sahadew said that they wanted to raise around R100 000, adding that they were not far off. “Any amount we do raise will go towards the cause, [it] will go towards the family.”
