The City of Joburg Sports and Recreation Department on January 22 hosted a Region A aerobics event at the Busy Corner Imbizo Shisanyama in Ebony, near Ivory Park.

Mandla Mahlangu, assistant director for sports and recreation said the City of Joburg has partnered with the Gauteng, Sports, Arts and Culture, and local aerobics clubs to deliver the ‘noble enterprise’ to the communities.

“The purpose of this event is to inculcate a culture of a healthy lifestyle, social cohesion, promote community spirit and enjoyment. We demonstrate that we are a caring City,” Mahlangu said.

The event featured close to 200 people, predominantly women as men are encouraged to attend the next events in numbers.

Most of the participants came from surrounding areas like Rabie Ridge, Thembisa, Ebony, Ivory Park, Kaalfontein, Clayville. “There was great excitement as people moved their bodies in a bid to shed the festive fat and weight. A real fun-filled day,” added Mahlangu.

Mahlangu explained that they need more partners from the private sector, businesses, NGOs, private persons, community groups to improve the circumstances of the communities.

Amongt other many dates, the next aerobics events will take place on February 26 at Noordwyk Park; March 12 at Kaalfontein Corner Mall; May 21 at Rabie Ridge Stadium, and June 04 at Ivory Park North Hall.
