Dischem Carlswald gives New Jerusalem a memorable new year start

CARLSWALD – Phumi Mahlangu, who led the initiative, said that the money for the donations was collected from customers in the festive season after they asked if they could assist the centre.

Dischem Carlswald recently gave the New Jerusalem Children’s Home a memorable start to the new year.
The store, with help from customers, donated essentials ranging from deodorant, nappies, bathing soap, detergents, lotions, and more on January 26.

Employee, Phumzile Mahlangu, who led the initiative said that it was started three years ago.
Mahlangu said that they collected donations throughout the festive season last year from December 1 to 24, from customers.

“As customers bought gifts from us and wrapped them in store, we asked them for a donation to support a local home we had chosen so we can try and help our community and keep the initiative going.

“We were able to raise R5 858 and all the money we made went to the donations. And that’s how we were able to get all the required supplies to meet the New Jerusalem Children’s Home’s new year wish list,” said Mahlangu.
NJCH’s business solutions manager Moatapele Phalafala welcomed the donations.

He said that as an organisation, they were very grateful for the partnership with Dischem Carlswald and that it has continued. “We are receiving these wonderful donations in times that we need them.”

Moetapele said that people and businesses could still help out and donate as there were more items needed such as cleaning products, baby food, sanitisers, first aid kits, and so forth.

“If you want to donate, you could do so by contacting 010 224 0458 or emailing info@njch.org.za. Our home is at 138 Steyn Road, President Park,” concluded Moetapele.
