Five suspects were arrested after they entered a property in Glen Austin around 22:10.
According to Midrand Police Station spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane, on February 11 the suspects are believed to have attacked and assaulted employees at the property demanding to see a safe. They also asked about the whereabouts of the owner of the property, however, they did not succeed as the employees did not submit to their demands.
Mabulane said a cellphone was forcefully taken from one of the victims. Later that day, police and security personnel responded to a call relating to a house robbery, to which suspects fled the scene. “A preliminary investigation was done, it led police to the alleged robbers matching the same description which was mentioned by the victims [of the earlier incident]. The police cordoned [off] the area and managed to apprehend the suspect,” said Mabulane.
The station commander, Brigadier David Tsotsotso applauded the police members and the security guard for such bravery, commitment, and love for the badge by responding quickly and putting their lives in danger to save those that are affected by the crime.
“As the investigation continues, we will not seize until more suspects are arrested with firearms they are using to commit crimes. In the Midrand area, we do not tolerate any act of criminality and we will not hesitate to act where we should uphold the constitution,” added Tsotsotso.
Tsotsotso concluded that they would always act within the legal framework and serve people with pride.
