Five years sentence for one suspect, harsher sentence for another suspect awaited by Midrand police

“The male suspect who was arrested as well is still appearing in court and Midrand police are awaiting a harsher sentence,” Said Midrand police spokesperson.

Alexandra Magistrate’s Court sentenced a woman to five years of direct imprisonment for attempting to rob a store in Midrand.

The woman together with other three men entered a liquor outlet on February 2 at about 23:00 and pointed a firearm at the store cashier.
The gun was later discovered to be a toy firearm.

Two of the three men fled the scene but the woman and one of the male accomplices were arrested.

Midrand police spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane said the accomplice would appear in court again.

“Police are still tracing the other suspects who fled the scene,” Mabulane added.

Midrand Police Station Commander Brigadier Molefi David Tsotsotso commended the good work by Detective Sergeant Phillipos Madimetja Madisha and the team of officers who made the arrests.
