More educators gather at Castle Kyalami for the second learner support seminar

The next seminar will be held on May 31 to accommodate an ever-growing number of educators reaching to gain practical knowledge.

More than 150 educators attended the latest Learner Support programme seminar for educators and parents at Castle Kyalami in Midrand.

The programme aims to improve the South African education system by teaching essential skills. After the success of the first seminar, this second seminar attracted more educators.

Teachers from pre-schools to high schools as well as representatives from the Gauteng Department of Education and the National Department of Higher Education attended to seek learner support education solutions.

The seminar presented several tools that laid out the three main barriers to learning. These can help any youngsters to learn and apply what they have learned.

The audience was very attentive during the presentation. Afterward educators confessed how their current teaching methods and attitudes contribute to learning difficulties.

Nonhlanhla Tsematse, a life orientation programme coordinator at the Gauteng Department of Education said, “The way the seminar was presented to us is exactly the way we need to conduct our training in the life orientation programme. Your presentation is so interactive and this is what we are lacking.”

Thobile Mhlongo, a life orientation and inclusion specialist for the Department of Higher Education and Training, was full of praise for the programme and said as teachers, they do not take the time to understand their students and that they are lacking effective teaching methods. This programme is going to equip us with the teaching techniques we need to help any student understand and apply what they are studying and it will make us better teachers,” explained Mhlongo.

Ann Colvin, a representative of the programme, is excited that more educators attended the second seminar as they plan to do this monthly to assist as many educators as possible.
