According to Solly Khuthama, managing director of Tumelo Home, the purpose of the fun day on May 6 was to celebrate the opening of Tumelo’s new centre.

“We are celebrating the expansion of Tumelo Home,” said Khuthama. “It started as a daycare centre but later became a 24-hour operation centre because parents would bring their children using false addresses and information, with the intention of not picking them up later on.”

Besides the newly opened President Park Centre, Tumelo Home has two other facilities around the area. The opening of the third centre hopes to help accommodate more handicapped children since there are more than 300 children on their waiting list.

It was certainly a playful day for the children. There were various games as well as a jumping castle and mini soccer pitches among the activities.

Supervisor at the home Kerotse Mathata said, “We assure you that we will exercise our profession as caregivers to the best of our ability for the attainment of healthcare excellence at our new centre at President Park.”

For Tdglobal, this new relationship with Tumelo Home is part of its company’s corporate social responsibility programme. Bavuyile Nongco of Tdglobal explained, “This kind of event helps raise awareness to the community of the needs of the children and that the children not only need financial support but also human interaction in order to feel included in their communities.”
