Non-profit continues to put children first

The non-profit organisation offers services which include counselling, referrals and sometimes food parcels.

Childline continues to cater for the welfare of children.
Childline Gauteng director Lynne Cawood shared an incident which took place during the hard lockdown.

“A 21-year-old sister of two young siblings called the Childline Help Line to request for a food parcel as she could not feed her family. It was arranged with strict Covid-19 health and safety measures that she collect from Childline a donated voucher and food parcel,” she said.
“On her arrival, our clinical social worker debriefed her and discovered that the mother is an alcoholic and leaves the responsibility of the siblings to the 21-year-old. We referred the 21-year-old to a non-profit organisation dedicated to reducing youth unemployment for skills development and child support services from Sassa. We referred her mother to the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence.”

She added that the family was extremely grateful for the counselling and support services/intervention and stakeholder referral.

“Through responsive individuals who invest in the communities that we serve, let us reconstruct our country, become a change-maker and donate via this link https://www.payfast.co.za/donate/go/childlinegauteng or by means of the bank account provided on the website.”
