Local NPO hands out food parcels to the needy in Ivory Park
Connect To Feed founder Upama Srivastava said they distributed 800kg of maize meal, 800 loaves of bread and 1 600 apples.
It was all smiles on a Mother’s Day celebration when Connect To Feed handed out food parcels to the community of Ivory Park and warmed prepared lunch on a cold and drizzling day.
After eating their lunch, which was prepared by Food for Life, about 100 elderly and children were handed plastic bags consisting of bread, maize meal, and two apples each on May 8.

Food for Life, which provides about 15 000 plates of food per day nationally in a bid to eradicate hunger and malnutrition, provides lunch to the children every day at 12:00
Founder of Connect To Feed Upama Srivastava said the #TembisaDrive went very well and they are grateful to all the sponsors who made the event a success.
“It was nice to see everyone excited and enjoying the warmly prepared food. I think it was a successful drive and we are thankful to Food for Life as a partnership. I would like to thank everyone [organisations, sponsors and volunteers] who put in a helping hand to ensure that this day becomes a success,” said Srivastava.

She said they distributed 800kg of maize meal, 800 loaves of bread and 1 600 apples.
When asked about future plans of the NPO, she said, “The winter season is surely upon us, so as the NPO we want to provide warm winter clothes for the kids such as socks and tracksuits all planned for June because some of them were not warm and it was cold.”
One of the beneficiaries, who cannot be named for fear of humiliation, said she was happy that despite their backgrounds, there are NPOs who look out for them.

“The food goes a long way for us. We are happy to have kind-hearted people who think of us [the needy]. We are forever grateful for their support because, without them, we would go to bed hungry and not knowing what we will eat.”
At the end of the day, the children were entertained by magician Monique ‘Minki’ Magerstein from Amazing Entertainment who performed all sorts of tricks to their disbelief among fun and laughter.
