Five boys from Midrand High to represent district in Pretoria

Five U17 boys of Midrand High School have been selected to represent Johannesburg East District in Pretoria.
The players were selected during the school’s sports winter games which were played at the school on June 11.

Captain Kamogelo Mazibuko, Mahlatse Ledwaba, Neo Marudi, Telezi Mciteka and Khanya Hanisi impressed the soccer scouts and will now have to work hard to make it to the provincial and ultimately national squads.

Kamogelo and Mahlatse, who are two midfield maestros and complement each other in the park, spoke to the Midrand Reporter about their selection and what they look forward to.

Kamogelo, who plays a defensive midfield role, said he was nervous about the selection but happy that he made the cut.

“Honestly speaking, I did not play well in the first few minutes of the game as I made lots of mistakes but managed to compose myself and find my feet. I will try not to be too nervous, prepare myself mentally and emotionally so that I do not make the same mistakes.”
He described his style of play as an aggressive midfielder who believes in playing short passes than playing long balls.

Attacking midfielder Mahlatse said he was happy that he got this opportunity and hopes to grab it with both hands.

“I am happy to have been selected because this means that my hard work behind closed doors has paid off. For me, being selected means I must continue doing what I have always been doing, take constructive criticism and use it to improve my strength which is to always be creative in the final third and give a game spark.”

The insatiable duo – whose combination is exciting to watch in the middle of the park – said the ultimate goal was to make it professional and they will do everything in their power to ply their trade in the elite league of South African football.
