Exercise forms part of June 16 celebrations in Region A
Region A sports and recreation department is eager to entice everyone to join them in the next instalment of the outdoor aerobics session.
Outdoor aerobics sessions are gaining momentum in various townships and suburbs in Region A.
About 150 people, young and old, from Ebony Park, Ivory Park and Kaalfontein braved the June 16 cold to participate in an outdoor aerobics session hosted by the City’s Region A sports and recreation department.

Held at the Busy Corner parking lot, the session started at 7:00 until 9:00, and saw participants being put through their paces by young instructors.
The aim was to celebrate June 16 while shedding some weight.
Resident Pontsho Malatetja said he was going to his usual gym session in Ebony Park when he saw a lot of people doing outdoor aerobics.

“I then joined everyone, and I must say it was really enjoyable to take a backseat and allow someone to lead us. I love training a lot and it was extremely fun being here. I think it will be a great initiative to have these sessions more often,” said Malatetja.
Some youngsters from the townships were also given an opportunity to lead the session as a way of encouraging them to live a healthy lifestyle.
Region A sports and recreation assistant director Mandla Mahlangu said the session was phenomenal and they were planning to host another instalment in Kaalfontein on June 25 following the impressive attendance.

“We try to accommodate everybody with this outdoor aerobics session. From fitness fanatics to those who have never seen a gym door, they are all welcomed here. I think slowly but surely, people are beginning to see our sessions and we hope it grows steadily,” said Mahlangu.
Mahlangu added that he had encouraged the young participants to start aerobics clubs at their various schools to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Meanwhile, in another fitness session, Midrand police, security companies and other role players commemorated Youth Day on June 15 in Noordwyk Park.

Police spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane said volleyball, aerobics, a five-minute fun walk, soccer and tug of war were some of the activities.
“The activities were meant to boost the morale and create healthy mind for all the forces. We remember those that have lost lives in fighting for freeedom and honour the living legends,” said Mabulane.

He concluded that after the activities, participants spoke about the different issues affecting the youth of today.
