Joint law enforcement effort leads to three arrests in Glen Austin
Police were tracking the three men in Midrand Sector 1 after many incidents were reported in the area.
A collaborative effort between the Midrand police social crime prevention team, tracing team, and communication officials resulted in the arrest of three male suspects for possession of an unlicensed firearm and robbery allegations.
Constable Eliot Mabulane, the spokesperson for the Midrand police said the three suspects were arrested in Election Road in President Park.
Police had been tracking the three suspects in Midrand Sector 1 after several armed robberies and hijackings in the area were reported involving firearms and two to three men. “The scene where the suspects were arrested is a hotspot for hijackings and robberies.
“A white Golf 1 was spotted stationary with three suspects and they were immediately searched and a firearm was found in their possession,” said Mabulane
“All suspects have been detained at the station for possession of an unlicensed firearm and they are due to appear in court.”
The Midrand Police Station Acting Commander Colonel Hosea Mantji praised the law enforcement members for their success and for putting their lives in danger to protect the community which showed patriotism and the love to serve.
