According to police spokesperson Sergeant Dipolelo Moremi, a woman reported the incident on June 21 to Rabie Ridge police.
“It is alleged that she [woman] was walking in an open veld, which is after Rabie Ridge robot enroute to Glen Austin side, when she saw a black 10l bucket dumped on the side of the road,” said Moremi.
The witness then took a closer look and saw a baby inside the bucket.
“She noticed that the child was not moving. She immediately contacted the Rabie Ridge police, and a patrol vehicle was sent to the scene.”
Moremi said paramedics were called to the scene and they declared the baby dead.
