Body of a newborn found dumped in the bush near Glen Austin

A body of a newborn was found in the bushes inside a 10l bucket.

Rabie Ridge police are investigating after a newborn baby was found inside a bucket and dumped in the bush.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Dipolelo Moremi, a woman reported the incident on June 21 to Rabie Ridge police.

“It is alleged that she [woman] was walking in an open veld, which is after Rabie Ridge robot enroute to Glen Austin side, when she saw a black 10l bucket dumped on the side of the road,” said Moremi.

The witness then took a closer look and saw a baby inside the bucket.

“She noticed that the child was not moving. She immediately contacted the Rabie Ridge police, and a patrol vehicle was sent to the scene.”

Moremi said paramedics were called to the scene and they declared the baby dead.

The child was taken to a government mortuary.

The police are appealing from members of the community who may have any information to come forward.
