ANC’s Ward 112 calls for Eskom’s CEO and board resignation amid loadshedding
Eskom national spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha did not want to respond when given a right of reply against all allegation pitted against power utility CEO and board, instead, opted for 'No comment'.
The ANC Liliesleaf Farm Branch in Midrand’s Ward 112 has called for the resignation of Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter and the entire board following the implementation of Stage 6 load-shedding.
Party chairperson in Ward 112 Marvin Maphiri said the branch was appalled by the sheer incompetence, and added the power utility CEO, board and collective leadership at managerial level which plunged the country into its second Stage 6 load-shedding in the history of Eskom should resign or be dismissed.
He said Eskom’s unstable and unreliable power supply over the years needed accountability and consequences for the board of directors and executive management.
“Our concern as a branch is that this rolling load-shedding happens during the high energy demand period, winter season, and just as small businesses begin to recover from the impact of Covid-19. The situation has caused untold inconveniences, chaos and suffering to households and business alike,” said Maphiri.
He accused the board and management of being given a lifeline on several occasions to turn the power utility around, but only to prove unwilling and incapable of implementing a working strategy.
Eskom’s national spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha did not want to respond when afforded the opportunity to give the power utility’s side of the story.
Instead, he said, “Thank you for the opportunity, [but] no comment.”
