Organisations dedicate their 67 minutes of service to New Jerusalem
The day was filled with fun activities and meaningful hardworking contributions.
The Mandela Day campaign encourages people to use 67 minutes of their time to support a chosen charity or serve in their local community.
As part of their commitment to the day, several organisations from Midrand and surrounds converged at New Jerusalem Children’s Home on July 18 to donate and do good deeds.

New Jerusalem is one of the numerous care facilities in President Park that caters to the needs and well-being of vulnerable, abused, traumatised, and orphaned children and youth.
Among the organisations available were the Johannesburg City Library, Ukhozi Mweusi, Excellent Industry, Midrand Police Station, Carlswald Preparatory School, Adcock Ingram, and National Childrens Violence Trust.

The assistant director of Joburg libraries and information services, Ntombi Tladinyane, explained that the organisations are not offering help because of Mandela Day, but rather they are attempting to make a difference in the community.

“Our trips after New Jerusalem will include visits to the two Tumelo Home centres,” said Tladinyane.
The day was filled with joy, fun, music, and meaningful hardworking contribution comprising of cleaning, gardening, peeling, ironing, painting, grocery and clothing donations.

Managing director of New Jerusalem Anna Difo expressed her gratitude to the organisations since the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020 made getting donations more difficult for the home.

“I am deeply moved and touched by the love and the support that companies, NGOs, schools, the police, individuals, and friends have shown to New Jerusalem by taking their precious time to celebrate Mandela Day with the children.”

The home will be open for the whole month to those who still wish to provide a service in honour of Mandela.
