Midrand police together with community patrollers arrested a 42-year-old suspect from Alexandra after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, bullets and three pellets for a gun.

The suspect was arrested on Allandale Road when he was stopped during a stop and search operation aimed at rooting out criminality on July 28 at about 23:00.

Police spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane said the suspect was driving with two occupants in a white Volkswagen Polo sedan.

“When the police were searching the vehicle they found four guns. One in possession of the suspect who was the driver with ammunition and three pellets [for as gun] were found inside the vehicle. The two other occupants are still vetted and profiled to verify if they are not wanted [suspects] and if they can’t be linked with other crimes in the area,” said Mabulane.

He said the suspect found with a gun was in custody and was due to appear in court soon.

Meanwhile, Midrand Sector 2 Crime Forum also held a high visibility operation on July 29 with Midrand police, sector patrollers, ADT Security, Hawkeye Security and TRSS Security.

According to Nolan Naidoo of Sector 2 patrols and operations, between 19:00 and 23:00, the team had made a huge impact in the Midrand suburbs.

Midrand Police Station Commander Brigadier Molefi David Tsotsotso has commended the members and community for their dedication to fighting crime.

“We really appreciate the good working relationship in taking your own resources to patrol and safeguarding the community. We will always work towards upholding the Constitution and protecting human rights,” said Tsotsotso.
