Midland Primary and High School gets new computer lab

Midland Primary and High School principal Sharira Padayachy says all learners from the school will now have access to a computer lab, unlike previously when they only had one lab which accommodated EFT and Senior Phase grades.

Midland Primary and High School in Crowthorne AH opened a new computer lab for their Grade 10 to 12 learners on August 12.

Principal Sharira Padayachy, senior phase head of department Nokuthula Mbedzi and intermediate phase head of department Elana Govender were part of the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The Grade 10 to 12 learners were also present to witness the opening of their new lab.

According to Padayachy, the lab which has 30 computers will be valuable to the learners for doing assignments and research.

She said as the world was moving into a more technological space, there was a dire need for the school to move with the times and not disadvantage their learners.

“We initially had one lab which we used for our Grade 10 to12s…. and then we realised that we are disadvantaging our Grade R to Grade 9 learners because they didn’t have exposure to computers. So we decided to open this new lab so that the Grade Rs to Grade 9s can use the old lab,” said Padayachy.

She said they wanted to give all their learners a competitive edge post their matric years.
Grade 12 learner Mona Mabiletsa said the world was living in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and accessing modern and technological spaces.

“So this lab will help us as learners understand the future and global space of the 21st-century technology, interconnectivity and smart robotics. With technology, all information is at your fingertips, literally,” concluded Mona.
