Head of preventative department at the Witkoppen Clinic encouraged nursing mothers to consult health promoters at the clinic to learn more about breastfeeding and its benefits.

To create awareness and teach nursing mothers the importance of breastfeeding, Witkoppen Clinic hosted a World Breastfeeding Day event on August 4.

Speaking at the event, the head of the preventative department at the clinic, Thembisile Makhombothi said, “Breastfeeding has got a lot of health benefits for both mother and the child. It helps lowers the baby’s risk of having asthma or allergies. Babies who are breastfed exclusively for the first six months without any formula have fewer ear infections, respiratory illnesses, and bouts of diarrhoea. It also improves the bond between the mother and the child.”
