Curro Academy Clayville Grade 5 learner Mokgadi Moabelo bagged first place for her science project in the Department of Basic Education Science Fair competition.
The fair was held on August 13 at Benoni West Primary School.
To improve learners’ performance and increase interest and active participation in natural sciences and technology, the Department of Basic Education in Gauteng introduced the fair which promotes natural sciences and provides a possible career pathway for future scientists in our country.
In the competition, parents and guardians can partner with their children in doing an investigative science project. Mokgadi(11) entered the competition with the assistance of her father.
“I feel great about participating in it [science fair] because it is an opportunity for me to know more about science and the human body,” said Mokgadi.
The competition is open to all Grade 4 and 5 learners in Gauteng. It starts at a school level where learners of the same school compete among themselves before proceeding to the cluster level where these learners compete against learners from other schools.
The next level is where learners compete against each other in the same district and the final level is that of the provincial level where learners compete against learners from different districts of Gauteng.
Mokgadi will go through to the provincial level of the competition on September 10 at Edenglen Primary School.
The school is extremely proud of Mokgadi and wished her all the best at the provincial level.
Mbavhalelo Malofha, the marketing manager at the school said, ”We would like to thank Betty Mashaba who accompanies Mokgadi to every competition.”
