Cycle for the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind
Join Team Guide Dogs in the upcoming Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg cycling race to raise funds for the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind.
The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind has called on community members and supporters to represent them in an upcoming cycling race in Steyn City.
The Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg cycling race will take place on November 20, where riders taking part can join a team to ride for and raise money for a charity or foundation.
At the association, the aim is to aid millions of visually impaired and physically disabled people to achieve their dreams. Community members taking part in the cycling race are encouraged to ride for the association to raise necessary funds.
Yolande van Rooyen of the association elaborated more on what they did.
“We provide guide dogs for people who are visually impaired, service dogs for people who are physically disabled, autism support dogs for children on the autism spectrum and teach vital life skills to people who live with visual impairment through our orientation and mobility services.
“For many people, it is a dream to be able to ride the 947 cycle challenge. For the millions of people living with disabilities in South Africa, their dream is simply to be able to get to work unassisted, or cook a meal for their family,” she said.
She added that their vision was to have a country where people with visual and physical disabilities could experience freedom and independence.
Proceeds will go towards the training of more assistance dogs and providing much-needed assistive devices such as white canes to people living with disabilities.
