A suspect was handed over to the Midrand police Station after he and his two accomplices allegedly mugged a victim of his cellphone.

This was during a Midrand Sector 3 Crime Forum operation in Noordwyk on September 22. The suspect’s accomplices managed to run away.
Forum chairperson Marvin Maphiri said the operation covered streets which included 8th and 6th roads that were statistically known to have high crime rates.
Maphiri said they had come across the victim, a resident, on the corner of Vodacom Boulevard and Lever Road who informed them that he had been mugged by three armed men.

“The suspects had already fled the scene into the veld next to Boats Company. We quickly started searching the area, in particular the veld, until we found one suspect with the mobile phone taken from the resident. The suspect was apprehended and booked in [at the Midrand Police Station], while the other two were long gone,” said Maphiri.
He pleaded with community members to remain vigilant, jog in groups and not carry valuables.
“Our biggest appreciation to Midrand SAPS, Ria Sebetsa Security Services, TRSS Security Services and our patrol team community. We encourage members to join the Sector 3 patrol team to make our area proud.”
Acting Midrand Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Thabiso Angelina Selowa said the suspect was charged with armed robbery and briefly appeared in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on September 26.
“One male suspect was arrested and detained at Midrand SAPS cells after he robbed the complainant of his iPhone 12 on Lever Road in Noordwyk while he [the victim] was jogging. The suspect appeared in court facing an armed robbery charge, where he was denied bail and will remain in police custody,” said Selowa.
