Reigning Midrand Local Football Associations (MLFA) champions, Indlovu FC held a pre-season tournament to gauge their readiness for the SAB Regional league.

In two weeks’ time, the regional league is expected to commence on October 15 as Indlovu and Risannah will be making their maiden appearances.

The top-8 was held at the Olifantsfontein Sports Grounds in September.

Other local teams included MLFA’s second-place finishers in the season that just ended, Risannah FC, Midrand Spoilers, Naesma Academy, and Tembisa Hawks.

North West University, Mmabatho FC, and PK FC from Johannesburg completed the eight teams.

After a 1-all draw with Tembisa Hawks, Risinnah won 5-4 on penalties in their final while the host played to a goalless draw against Mmbatho FC but due to darkness, the game was called-off.

Indlovu FC coach Thato Legodi wants to condition his players’ fitness to ensure endurance in the SAB Regional league.

Indlovu coach Thato Legodi says he believes playing all these games helps the players gain needed game-time ahead of the 2022/23 season.

“Games in SAB league are highly tactical and intense, so we need to help our players understand that level of intensity. This is also to help our players gain fitness that will keep us in the [SAB] league because we are not going there to add numbers, but to compete as well and see how far we can go,” said Legodi.

Risannah manager Thembalni Khosa said, “Vision 2027 is achievable if we all work hard as a team to ensure that we push towards the same goal. From SAB, we need to go to SAFA ABC Motsepe, then Motsepe Foundation Championship, and then the PSL [Premier Soccer League].”

Khosa concluded that the team was ambitious enough to work hard to reach the pinnacle of the professional league, the PSL.
