Glen Austin dog owner, with 15 German shepherds, shares her love for pets

Advanced animal behaviourist urges people to support her school by participating in some of her fundraising events such as deworming specials.

Dog trainer and advanced animal behaviourist Charlene Kruger from Glen Austin AH in Midrand believes a trained dog is a happy dog.

Kruger is the owner of Manderston Canine Academy – a puppy and dog training school for all ages and breeds – and owns about 15 German shepherds.

She started the academy about 15 years ago and has been in this field for more than 30 years. The academy aims to rehabilitate badly treated animals and ensure that they live their best life.

Kruger hosts classes for all kinds of breeds with their owners on weekends. “Dogs love unconditionally, they give to you no human can give to you. Dogs are there to protect and their unconditional love just warms my heart…I love what I am doing,” said Kruger.

Kruger requested a helping hand as her monthly expense for dog food is R20 000 per month. “It will be great to get people to donate a bag of dog food. What we do is imperative because some people out there do not know how to treat their pets. It’s almost important to teach communities how to treat their puppies. Raising money is my challenge and sometimes people don’t take you seriously.”

She hopes people realise that dogs should be an integral part of homes, not just for security purposes.
