An emu gets rescued from the street by a Midrand SPCA inspector

The inspector managed to stay calm and patient and the emu made it safely home.

The local SPCA recently received an emergency call regarding an emu making its way toward a busy intersection in Glen Austin.

Midrand SPCA inspector Jerry Seemise responded to the call and caught up with the emu (flightless bird endemic to Australia that is the second largest living bird). It was quickly ascertained which property the escapee belonged and with some food in hand, the gentle inspector patiently walked the emu back home.

There were several times when the bird became a bit distracted and wanted to make a run for the road but this was not the SPCA’s first emu rescue. Seemise remained calm and patient and the emu made it safely home.

A warning was issued to the owner by the SPCA.

The SPCA thanked Judy Bird for her assistance and also applauded inspector Seemise. “We know this was no easy task but your [Seemise] patience and kind encouragement paid off once again,” said the SPCA.
