Noordwyk resident thanks Midrand Reporter for assisting with installation of raised pedestrian crossing
Nanda Sono, "I can now paint my driveway having bought paints for the past two or three years. I hope they are still in good condition".
Ecstatic Noordwyk resident Nanda Sono said he hoped to paint his driveway if the paint was still fresh after a raised pedestrian crossing was erected outside his home.
He said this when thanking Midrand Reporter on December 8 for assisting him to get Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to urgently install the pedestrian crossing. He added JRA had finally installed the crossing on December 6 after being sent from pillar to post for three years.
Sono believed the crossing was going to redirect the water which flows from Karee Street and enters his property, ultimately causing flooding. He has been a Noordwyk resident since 2012 and said the problem was the result of his house being on a slope
“It rained for the past two days and the water is no longer flooding my yard. For the first time I didn’t have to sweep the sand after the rain,” said Sono.
“Thank you for assisting in highlighting my plight and thanks to your office as well. I can now paint my driveway having bought paint for the past two or three years. I hope they it is still in good condition.
After being contacted by Sono, Midrand Reporter published Complaints flood in [Week ending 25 November], and it only took a week for JRA to respond to Sono’s pleas.
Asked if the installation meant peaceful sleep, he said, “Indeed, but we will see what happens when heavy rains come down, I hope the hump [crossing] will still be effective.”
