Glen Austin High School celebrates top-performing learners
The four learners, Lethabo Malatsi, Morgan Rath, Precious Maluleka and Ritshidze Muvhango, won first prizes in top achievers per Grade 2022.
Learners at Glen Austin High School cheered those who walked up on stage to collect their certificates for outstanding performances last year.
The Awards Day on February 24 saw Lethabo Malatsi (now Grade 9) receive six certificates – economics and management sciences (EMS), Afrikaans first additional language, life sciences and technology.
Morgan Rath (now Grade 10) received six certificates in similar subjects as Lethabo.
A Grade 11 learner, Precious Maluleka, walked away with six certificates in accounting, Afrikaans, English, maths, life sciences and life orientation.
The big winner was Ritshidze Muvhango (now Grade 12) who scooped seven certificates, with one in physical science.
The four above-mentioned learners also won first prizes as top achievers per Grade 2022.
However, the awards were not only for academic achievers – the school also celebrated the 2023 top athletes. Ntokozo Mazibuko won gold and silver medals in discus and shot-put for U15 boys.
Chidima Mbaeli won a gold medal in the U15 girls’ 100m, while in the U17 boys’ high jump silver went to Bayanda Ndawonde.
Kefira Bowker won gold in the U19 girls’ high jump event.
The four athletes will now progress and represent the school at provincial level.
Principal Berthold Moyo congratulated all the winners and encouraged those who did not make it. “If you thought it is not possible, well, it is. And I believe everyone should aspire to reach this magnificent feat so that this time next year, we might be calling your name to come up on stage to collect certificates which you would have worked hard for.”
