Hilti SA offers learnership to two New Jerusalem Children’s Home 2022 matriculants.
The company has offered Benny and Benedict a leadership programme where they will have the opportunity to study and gain experience at its premises in Waterfall.
Youth unemployment in South Africa keeps increasing, and many youth attend school just to end up sitting home depressed and angry.
Stats SA states that although the graduate unemployment rate remains relatively low in the country compared to those of other educational levels, unemployment among the youth continues to be a burden, irrespective of educational attainment.
“Year-on-year, the unemployment rate among young graduates (aged 15–24 years) declined from 40.3% to 32.6%, while it increased by 6.9 percentage points to 22.4% for those aged 25–34 years in 2022 first quarter.”
Now imagine how it is for less-privileged or vulnerable children with no job or an opportunity to further their studies. Despite this, there is always hope.
Two local girls – Benny and Benedict Mbathane from New Jerusalem Children’s Home – performed exceptionally well in their matric exams.
Benny achieved an admission of bachelor’s degree pass with two distinctions in isiZulu and life orientation, while Benedict also achieved an admission of bachelor’s degree pass.
Even though unemployment is a challenge in SA, especially for children living in orphanages, the home has companies that have devoted themselves to improving the lives of less-privileged children.
For the last five years, Hilti SA, a local manufacturing company, has donated stationery, gifts, and kept the home clean. This year the company has offered Benny and Benedict a leadership programme where they will have the opportunity to study and gain experience at its premises in Waterfall.
The programme will provide motivated young girls with the chance to take ownership, develop life skills, and build self-confidence among other essential skills. Through this amazing opportunity, Benny and Benedict already have a bright future ahead of them.
New Jerusalem is thankful to Hilti and Nydine Prins a brand specialist at a company who have made this opportunity possible.
New Jerusalem founder Anna Mojapelo-Difo concluded, “Regardless of the challenges we face, companies are willing to help and change lives. African children, do not lose hope.”
