Society to celebrate 65th birthday with various events, starting with sterilisation drive on World Sterilisation Day

The Society for Animals in Distress says thus far they have done 159 sterries for the month of February.

The Society for Animals in Distress (Said) in Vorna Valley will host a series of February Sterrie Drives as part of their 65th birthday celebrations in October.

Starting with the month of love, the society has pledged to sterilise 455 animals throughout the month.
Admin and donor manager Sally Tagg said the figure of 455 was got by multiplying seven dog years by 65 years of the organisation’s existence.

“The exciting news is that 2023 is the Society for Animals in Distress’s 65th birthday. We are planning lots of exciting events and commemorative days,” said Tagg.
“The first date to remember is Valentine’s Day and you can be a hero by donating in increments of R65… you can make a huge difference in the lives of our patients.”

Tagg said the customer would pay R500 per dog and R400 for a cat which would include feline immunodeficiency virus, feline leukaemia virus, testing and ear clipping.
On their Facebook page, the society gave an update on the Sterrie Drive saying, “Last week, we did 109 ‘sterries’ [sterilisations] of which 38 were field sterries. Thus far, we have done 159 sterries for the month. Thank you to Mandy Lu for sponsoring all of our field sterries.”

She added this will then be followed by Tick and Flea Prevention Week from March 23 to March 30, and on April 22, a Book Fair in honour of World Book Day (April 23).
