THABO NDLOVU: With combating crime comes a waste of money that was supposed to help in education and fixing roads. The police do their jobs perfectly, but the thing is we have corrupt cops, comrades, and top government officials. Start fighting the main corruption from the top.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has outlined some ambitious plans and priorities for the year ahead during the State of the Province Address.
The Midrand Reporter asked local residents if they have faith that our provincial government can deliver on those plans, here is what they had to say:
SPHELELE SHABALALA: It is so sad that they have to even admit that crime is out of control…they have lost control of everything.JABULANI HLATHI: The fight against crime sounds sophisticated and it will cost billions of rands. How is it going to be materialised during this period of the economic meltdown?BONGANI SANDILE: If they couldn’t curb crime before, how are they going to curb it now? Nothing has changed and nothing will. The corrupt criminals are still in power. This is a promise we hear year in, year out.RETSHEPILE MATASANE: Panyaza is a leader, just look at when he was at the Department of Education. His work was excellent. Let’s just hope everything promised will be delivered.ZODWA NUKERI: Panyaza knows that we are tired of listening as South Africans. He explained that we don’t really ask for much, just timeous delivery of services and I belive they will deliver.LUKHANYO MAPEYI: The truth is the situation on the ground is dire to that of the dreams sold.
